Following is an email from the owner of a Miniature Dachshund named “Jamie”. This dog experienced a period of lethargy, hunger, and incontinence several months before SARDS onset. By the time vision was lost the excessive hunger and incontinence had resolved. One month after vision loss the dog tested positive for adrenal fatigue and began treatment. This suggests that some dogs may not present classic signs/symptoms even though an underlying hormone problem currently exists.

Jamie is doing much, much better since our consultation. The turnaround has been dramatic! The day before she had the hormone replacement shots, she looked bad, lethargic with her head kind of listing to one side when she walked. Within 48 hours of the shots, she seemed — personality-wise — to be much the same as she was before she SARDS….running to meet us at the door and making “mental maps” as you said she would. My daughter was very excited to see her running across the field. It’s been so comforting to see her improve. I was fortunate to have picked up your book at the veterinary ophthalmologist’s office, otherwise I wouldn’t have known there was anything I could do to help her. I was also lucky to have a vet who was open to the testing and treatment. We’re happy to have our dog back to how she used to be. It’s lifted all our spirits to see her enthusiasm for life return. Thank you!
