DESCRIPTION: Pull up a chair and hear award-winning author Caroline Levin discuss some of today’s most troubling canine illnesses. The Big Picture (an animated Powerpoint-style presentation) illustrates the profound links between the immune system, hormone production and brain/retinal activity. Levin goes on to illustrate the startling relationships between adrenal exhaustion, atypical Addison’s disease and atypical Cushing’s disease. She also discusses basic concepts of autoimmune disease and cancer, explaining why and how these diseases occur. This presentation concludes with simple lifestyle changes (diet, vaccine and pesticide management) within the scope of every dog lover and breeder—therapies to help alleviate current health problems and prevent future illness. Adrenal testing and hormone replacement are also reviewed. Levin has been described as a “don’t miss” speaker and this presentation has been a favorite at breed/veterinary meetings. The Big Picture is a recommended resource for owners dealing with Sudden Acquired Retinal Degeneration (SARD). -BACK TO TOP-CONTENTS:FACTORS THAT STRESS NEURO-IMMUNO-ENDOCRINE FUNCTION
- Commercial diets: the effects on pancreatitis, inflammatory bowel disease; the links between grain intolerance and autoimmune disease (leaky gut syndrome)
- How pesticides and excessive vaccines stimulate immune system response, adrenal activity, and nerve/retinal cells
HOW THE ADRENAL GLANDS RESPOND TO CHRONIC IRRITATION
- Phases of adrenal activity: alarm, overdrive and exhaustion (hyperestrogenism) – under-recognized and under-reported in both dogs and humans
- How the adrenal sex-hormones mimic cortisol: hunger, incontinence, lethargy, panting, seizures, insomnia; rising lipase, cholesterol, ALKP, BUN, blood sugar and more
- Identifying cases of adrenal exhaustion: dogs with SARDS, chronic allergies/infections, multiple autoimmune diseases, poorly controlled diabetes, epilepsy or IBD; and those with Cushing’s signs but negative Cushing’s tests
DEALING WITH ADRENAL EXHAUSTION
- Diet and supplements, newer vaccine protocols and more natural methods of pest control
- Testing and treating adrenal exhaustion: a lesson from 30 years of human healthcare
REDUCING THE INCIDENCE OF ADRENAL AND AUTOIMMUNE DISEASE
- Reducing environmental factors that trigger genetic predispositions
- Breeding bitches: how elevated stress hormones trigger endocrine problems in offspring
- Weaning puppies: reducing the triggers for autoimmune disease

REVIEWS: I just love this DVD! It is simple to understand yet explains all the complex points people might have difficulty with. I have already given mine away, not because it wasn’t precious to me, but someone else needed it more—my vet. He’s interested in learning more about the total picture of adrenal exhaustion (thus this DVD “The Big Picture” was most appropriate). He has figured out that all the dogs he sees year-in, year out—that have symptoms of Cushing’s but can’t get positive ACTH stim test results—are probably suffering from adrenal exhaustion. He wants to start testing for it. Thank you for producing this DVD!
